Men’s Squad

Hello and welcome to the Mens Squad.

We are a squad of commited rowers and coxes, aged 18 to whatever age you wish to start rowing with the vets. We compete across all categories of both rowing and sculling from singles and pairs, all the way up to quads and 8s, from novice to elite, in both sweep and scull. Essentially, we provide a racing opportunity for all who are interested in rowing with us. Provided you have completed a learn to row course, or have past experience as a rower, sculler, cox or coach, you will be gladly welcomed into our squad.

Our calender runs from September to August, starting with regional head races in September, moving on to the big head races on the Tideway of pairs, 4s and scullers head throughout October, November and December, with more regional racing mixed in as preperation for these events. January sees the squad shift its focus onto building for the Head of the River Race in March with the aim of entering 2 boats into this event, a senior IM1/IM2 crew, and a novice crew. Regional events are again used as warm-ups for this in places such as Boston, Peterborough and on home water in Norwich. Our entries are not limited to 8s though, as we utilise the full range of club sweep-oar boats and enter pairs and 4s (both coxed and coxless) at these events as well. During this period, the majority of the squad is focused on sweep-oar rather than sculling.

Come April, we attend a full range of regattas over the summer. These include national 2k multi-lane regattas at Eton Dorney and Nottingham during May and June, building for possible Henley qualification. After Henley, during July and August, the squad enters a variety of regional river regattas, commonly over about 1k at Bedford, St. Neots, Sudbury and Peterborough. Entries into these races have been in the full range of boats, with successes last year in boats of all sizes, both sculling and sweep-oar.

Whatever your ambition in rowing, be it recreational, competitive club racing, or even if the word Tokyo is mentioned, the senior squad will do everything they can to help you to achieve your goal.
