Notices to members of Norwich Rowing Club July 2018

After her exciting final in the Aspirational single sculls at Women’s Henley, and attending trials, Sam has been selected to represent ENGLAND as the single sculler, and possibly in the quad at Home International regatta in Cork next weekend. What a fantastic achievement Sam, well done and thank you to Richard Hoare for being her dedicated coach, we wish her the best of luck this coming weekend!

Three members of this year’s Senior Squad – Ollie Negus, Carl Shiplee, and Sam Wheatman – will be rowing for  the Eastern Region’s Cambridge team in the POWER8s sprint racing in Bristol Harbour this Sunday. This will be available to watch from 2.30pm on BT Sport 3, and streamed live on Facebook.

Message from Jackie Kilbourne – Fire alarms – keep going off in the NRC boatshed due to the dust This has tripped fuses inside the boathouse. If you are going to sweep up in there, or move equipment around, please cover the smoke alarms with the plastic dust covers before you do so. If anyone heard the fire alarm, please phone the emergency numbers on the noticeboard in the clubhouse

NRC would like to hoover and seal the floor  to minimise the dust, we need some volunteers – please contact shelagh.tubby@gmail.com if you are able to help with this.

Locking up – if you are, you think you could be, the last to leave of an evening, PLEASE check all areas of the building including both changing rooms, gym and club room. Please shut all windows and turn all lights off. Please ensure the boathouses are all locked up and check the blade store container as you go past. Please put the shutter down using the key in the key sate beside the front door – code XXXX (ask someone!) .  If you are using the club room or gym in the afternoon or evening, and you are the last to leave the room, please ensure you close all windows and switch lights off. If someone else wants to use the room later they can open them again.

NCC are hosting a massive Hasler event on Sunday 30th September. There will be no rowing on that morning. NCC need to use our boating area from 4pm the day before until 4pm on Sunday 30th. You may have an evening outing from 5pm on Sunday 30th. If there are any kind volunteers who could help the canoe club in the kitchen that day, you will be gratefully received, contact Jackie Kilbourne on kneverfinished@hotmail.co.uk

Summer Racing – NRC has about 40 events entered at St Neots 28/29 July and plans to have a big entry at Peterborough as well on 11/12 August. Good luck to all those racing. Sorry if the boatsheds are fairly empty those days – the explore quads, 2x and 1x will still be at Norwich for general use, as will many fine doubles and a few larger boats.

The AGM is rapidly approaching – Tuesday 31st July 1830 for 1900 start. All members to attend if possible please.

If you are interested in helping the club in any way, be it a committee role or otherwise, please contact the club secretary Ollie Negus on olivernegus@hotmail.com detailing the skills you can offer the club. The more volunteers we have, the smaller each role becomes. If you would like to volunteer in some way, but cannot attend AGM, please mention this when you contact the club secretary.

A list of roles will be circulated shortly.

Boat maintenance carries on apace – every Wednesday afternoon, from 2pm until 8pm, Martin Tate, Shelagh Tubby and Jim Miller attend to reported repairs and carry out planned maintenance.  Please reports issues with boats to nrcrepairlog@gmail.com . If we don’t know about it, we can’t fix it.

If you have an hour or so to spare, please join us to help out.

Thank you all for the enthusiastic use of soap, sponges and watering cans. Keep up the good work, it minimises the need for boat deep cleans.

Plea from the Juniors – Keeping slides running smoothly, please do:

  • Get the grit off

  • Cloths to clean slides are hanging up in the boathouse.

  • Clean the wheels at the same time.

Thank you to Anna Hogg who did the strimming around the compound last week, wearing full PPE on one of the hottest days of the year was dedication indeed! Thank you.

TRAILERS – please return empty trailers to the trailer park.
